"You knew that you would die because of your pregnancy?" Khushi asked the woman.
"Yes. I knew it and my husband was angry with me as I did not tell him about this pregnancy issue earlier. When he got to know about it, it was already very late and I wanted to give birth to his child as I would not be able to conceive after this if I had aborted the child earlier. But see our fortune, my child will be an orphan now as my husband died and now I... Se started weeping thinking about her child's future. "What will my baby do now? I never wanted my child to live in an orphanage but nobody can go against God's wish. I had planned everything for my child and even saved money for its future, but" She holds the baby in her hands and the child smiles innocently at her. "Sorry my son. He would have looked completely like Arnav and his hair would be like me." A smile formed on her lips lips and she felt guilty for not letting her baby step in this world. Her inner voice says "God does not give everyone everything Khushi. He give happiness in one hand and sorrow in the other hand and one needs to face these difficulties to survive. Those who lose to these difficulties are weak while those who face them like this woman are strong. You chose not to give birth to your baby as you were scared of the future of your child...but atleast your baby had its parents. This child does not have any parents and how will he live all alone? May be...Me be this is God's sign to repent for your mistake, Khushi? May be God has brought you here so that you look after this child and give this child a new life and the love of its parents?"
Khushi thought for few moments before making her decision final. She asked the woman "Can I? Can I adopt this child?"
The woman was astonished to hear these words from Khushi and her eyes teared up. "You want to adopt?"
Khushi nodded her head and said "Few months back, I did not accept this gift of God and till now I've been repenting for my mistake of aborting my baby. This baby has ..." She wiped her tears and continued "Has awakened the mother in me...The mother whom I had buried somewhere in my heart...My baby..." The tears fall on the baby's face. "I have now realized that I was unjust to my own child and all this while I was trying to defend myself in front of my husband but now I promise...I promise to be a good mother and I will treat this child as my own. Please let me adopt this baby."
The woman smiled and said "You don't need to say that you'll treat this baby as your own. The fact that you cared for me and brought me here has already shown how good you are and your heart is pure. I'm so happy that...that my baby will get such a caring mother...I'm grateful that God did not let my baby live the life of an orphan. Thanks dear for coming in our life and being a savior for my baby."
Khushi smiled and saw the child smiling as well. She wiped the tears from the baby's face and gave it to his mother.
After few moments, the woman started breathing heavily and she asked the doctor to first complete the formalities and record her statement that she wanted Khushi to be her baby's mother/guardian.
The doctor came out and handed the baby to Khushi informing her that the woman is no more. Khushi looked at the child's face and couldn't stop her tears.
